A solid fourteen carat gold Cartier folding travel photograph frame set with a rotating signed cartier watch. This is an exceptional quality, un-touched condition extremely rare piece. The beautifully made solid gold case has a top lip that allows the photograph element of the piece to be opened. Once opened there are two frames that have the original perspex covers to protect the pictures that will sit beneath.
The outside edge of the case has the full Cartier stamped reference number and is stamped 14k and "JSCH", is powered by a pristine, Geneva striped, Jaeger LeCoultre manual wind caliber 101 movement. This movement is the smallest mechanical movement in the world originally launched in 1929, and is hard pressed to be equalled by any other watch maker.
The JSCH mark is for workshop of James Schulz. James Schulz was an independent New York-based watchmaker who began his career at Tiffany & Co., and later worked with Cartier to design and create timepieces. He launched his own business in 1924, and is best known for custom made complicated timepieces. In the 1920's, he conceived the idea to fit the complications of a pocket watch into the case of a wristwatch. His rare and unique platinum minute repeating perpetual calendar single button chronograph button sold at Christie's in November 2006 for over 1.3 million Swiss Francs.
The Cartier capital letter signed dial is original, and is in perfect condition. The eighteen carat gold faceted markers are bright and pop off the dial, and the original gold hands are clean and bright. This piece has come from a private collection, and has been stored in a safety deposit box almost since the day it was purchased. Therefore the condition of this piece, both the frame itself, and the watch movement and dial, are essentially as if it were new. An example of this piece, except personalized, features in the important Cartier time piece book, 'Les Temps de Cartier", which underlines its beauty and importance.
