Autumn, now in Ever-Brilliant Steel
The vibrant, textured blue dial of this Grand Seiko Heritage reference SBGH353 evokes the clear night skies that Japan enjoys during Shūbun, the sixteenth of the twenty-four sekki or seasons, which falls around the time of the autumn equinox. The gold-toned Grand Seiko lettering and seconds hand stand out in sharp relief against the deep blue dial, echoing the way the moon and stars illuminate the night sky.
Cast in Grand Seiko's own proprietary and anti-corrosive Ever-Brilliant Stainless Steel, this is a modern re-interpretation of the celebrated 62GS from 1967, whose characteristic sharp edges and perfect distortion-free surfaces can only be created through Zaratsu polishing. The watch’s wide dial opening was achieved thanks to a bezel-free construction, lending the 62GS a distinctive appearance on the wrist.
Inside is the Hi-Beat Caliber 9S85, hand assembled by the skilled craftsmen and women of the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi. This high-frequency mechanical movement was developed by rethinking the parts that form the foundation of the watch’s precision, granting the level of torque necessary to maintain a high oscillation rate and realizing a practical power reserve of about 55 hours when fully wound.
