Following in the footsteps of a whole host of iconic timepieces, the Patek Philippe ref. 5270P is the descendent of some of Pateks most historically significant models going as far back as 1941, like the ref. 1518, the ref. 2499, the ref. 3970, the ref. 5970 and some others. Launched in 2011, the new Perpetual Calendar Chronograph was an immediate hit, which it continues to be to this day. Boasting a modern 41mm case with a flat stepped bezel and stepped art deco-inspired lugs, its construction is beautifully elegant, just like its heritage demands, while also appealing to contemporary tastes through its larger construction. However, it was only in 2018 that the reference we have here, the ref. 5270P-001 was launched, with its platinum construction and salmon dial both subtle in design yet remarkably luxurious in the flesh. Featuring a seemingly busy dial, the ref. 5270 is actually quite legible with its twin day and date apertures at 12 oclock, large pointer date subdial at 6 oclock, and small leap year indicator at 4:30, completing its perpetual calendar function. With symmetrical subdials at 3 and 9 oclock, the ref. 5270s chronograph and running seconds function are perfectly placed in the empty space left to ensure its display is incredibly efficient. Powered by the manual-wind cal. CH 29-535 PS Q, like the 5270 references that came before it, the ref. 5270P-001 is perfectly poised to exist as one of the most beautifully designed Patek perpetual calendar chronographs there is. Marrying modern sensibilities such as its applied Arabic numerals, contemporary sizing, impressive movement, and beautiful construction with its iconic heritage, the ref. 5270P hits every mark that could have been expected of it.
